Conflict Coaching at the Group and Team Level

Conflict is a daily part of our environment and can be resolved. The key is it must be first acknowledged. Once acknowledged, the road to resolving it starts. We all have the opportunity to manage group or team conflict to move forward in reaching our goals.

I achieved my goal of becoming a successful Safety Specialist due to Coach Gary’s mentoring and guidance. The main thing I can say about Coach Gary is that he is very passionate about helping people. I have attended many of Coach Gary’s development courses; I have learned skills on Stress Management, Resolving Conflict at Work, and how to Balance Work and Life. When Coach Gary started to mentor me, he encouraged me to be the successful person that I always knew that I could become. Coach is very easy to talk to, he brought out a sense of confidence in me that allowed me to promote projects I never thought I could develop and deliver before. I highly recommend Coach Gary, with his contagious positive attitude; you too can become a better, happier, successful person. Thanks Coach.

I had the pleasure of being coached by Gary for a year through a company sponsored mentor/protégé program. Gary has been a constant source of inspiration, motivation encouragement and support. With his smooth demeanor, Coach Gary helped me translate my visions into reality, and held me accountable to myself. Gary has also helped me find the perfect balance between professional life & family life!! The best part would have to be the ongoing relationship we’ve built after the mentorship program ended.

Through my conflict coaching, I partner with groups or teams to help guide them through conflictive situations that working in groups or teams brings. My coaching is focused to provide groups or teams with the necessary tools to a more positive and successful group or team environment.

The point is to keep awareness that when team members bicker, everyone suffers. Minor disputes over process or tactics can cause major distractions in the workplace. Work gets interrupted and an unpleasant tension hangs in the air. Many times it is difficult to get beneath the surface of the disputes.

The question is can they work the conflict out themselves? Unfortunately many instances have team members hide behind masks or they send distorted or double messages to others. Thus, it can damage relationships.

Hi Gary, Thank you for your help and support. You have always made yourself available when I need help, and I appreciate that. My interview went well. I tried my best and incorporated as many of your tips as I could remember. I left the interview feeling relieved. Thank you again for your time and thank you for looking at my resume. You’re the best COACH ever!

Workplace relationships often mirror family relationships: people argue and disagree, sometimes heatedly. Even in these common cases, team members can’t seem to work it out themselves.

Comments

  1. What happens when conflict erupts in those groups? How is it managed and dealt with? What role do you play as a member of that group? What do you contribute to the problem resolution or do you just wash your hands of the problem and sit back hoping that others with take care of the situation.

    • Group conflict can be a bit more difficult to resolve, but it is possible to find solutions. What I have found is that in these cases it is usually one or two people that are the causes. Your job is to identify who they are and discuss how disruptive they have been to the group. When you know what the issues are, handle them immediately. Get these same disruptive people on your side and have them help lead the team. The others will follow suit.
